Expertise in Posttraumatic Stress, Meaning-Making, and Resilience

Stress, trauma, and major life events have a profound impact on individuals—and by extension, on teams, organizations, and communities. In addition to individual psychological support, I offer my expertise as a PhD psychologist, researcher, and trainer for complex psychological challenges.

Whether it involves supporting professionals working with traumatized target groups, clarifying the psychological impact of military deployments among veterans, or guiding the integration and participation of newcomers, I provide project-based solutions, substantive advisory services, and in-depth training programs.

Training and education on (posttraumatic) stress and resilience

Training and education on (post-traumatic) stress in professionals in healthcare, social services, and public institutions that face the intense aftermath of trauma and stress.

Project consultation

Drawing on years of experience with organizations such as the Dutch Veterans Institute, ARQ National Centre for excellence in mental health, and municipal community projects, I specialize in complex transitions like integration and participation, for example in veterans and refugees.

Scientific Research & Publications

As a researcher, I maintain a sharp focus on methodology, data analysis, and translating complex scientific insights into practice-oriented policy advice or user-friendly tools (such as the 'After the Mission' handbook and support app).

Selected Publications & Projects

A sample of my work bridging the gap between science and clinical practice:

Meaning as a Mission (PhD Research): a mixed method study into the role of meaning-making in cognitive adaptation processes among Dutch veterans following military deployment.

After the Mission (Na de missie): Practical tips, tools, and support for military personnel, veterans, and their families during the transition back home.

New Talent in the Netherlands / Participation in Houten: Roadmaps, practical tools, and guidance for municipalities and social organizations to reinforce the talents of newcomers and foster community participation.

Chapter in a casebook on ACT on existential ACT for trauma related symptoms edited by Tim Batink, Jacqueline A-Tjak, Roy Thewissen.

Publications: regular contributions to international and national peer-reviewed journals in the fields of psychotraumatology, culturally specific beliefs about mental health among refugees, and the effectiveness of trauma-focused treatments. Current research is focused on effectiveness of ACT for trauma and grief and measuring psychological flexibility.
